Description

Learn how to make charming DIY clay hearts that make perfect gifts for Valentine’s Day or as lovely decorations.

Ingredients

  • Air-dry clay (white or colored)
  • Rolling pin
  • Heart-shaped cookie cutters (various sizes)
  • Acrylic paints or markers
  • Paintbrushes
  • Clear sealant (optional for a glossy finish)
  • String or ribbon (if making ornaments)
  • Scissors (if necessary)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace by clearing a flat surface and protecting it with newspaper or a plastic sheet.
  2. Gather all your materials.
  3. Condition the air-dry clay until it’s soft and pliable.
  4. Roll out the clay to about 1/4 inch thick using a rolling pin.
  5. Cut out your desired heart shapes with the cookie cutters.
  6. Make a hole at the top of the heart using a straw or skewer for keychains or ornaments.
  7. Let the hearts dry completely (typically 24-48 hours).
  8. Paint your hearts with acrylic paints or add designs with markers once they are dry.
  9. Seal with a clear sealant for a glossy finish, if desired.

Notes

Swap air-dry clay with polymer clay for a more durable finish but require baking. Experiment with different paint techniques.
