Description

Create stunning and colorful Borax crystals through a simple and fun DIY project that combines science and artistry. Perfect for all ages!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup of Borax (sodium borate)
  • 3 cups of boiling water
  • Heat-resistant container (glass jar or bowl)
  • String or pipe cleaner (for crystal formation)
  • A pencil or stick (to suspend your string)
  • Food coloring (optional, for colored crystals)
  • Measuring cup
  • Stirring utensil

Instructions

  1. Boil 3 cups of water in a heat-resistant container.
  2. Carefully add 1 cup of Borax to the boiling water and stir continuously until completely dissolved.
  3. Take a length of string or a pipe cleaner; tie one end to a pencil or stick.
  4. Lower the string or pipe cleaner into the Borax solution, ensuring the end does not touch the bottom of the container.
  5. Let the container sit undisturbed in a cool place for at least 24 hours to observe crystal growth.
  6. Carefully lift out the string or pipe cleaner with the grown crystals.
  7. Rinse the crystals gently with water to remove excess Borax.

Notes

For vibrant, colored crystals, add food coloring to the boiling solution. You can also use cookie cutters as molds for unique crystal shapes.
