Description
Create stunning blue crayon suncatchers that brighten up your home and add vibrant hues to your windows.
Ingredients
- Broken blue crayons (or other colors if desired)
- Wax paper
- Iron or hair straightener
- Baking sheet
- Cookie cutter or stencil (for shapes)
- Scissors
- String or fishing line (for hanging)
Instructions
- Prepare Crayons: Snap blue crayons into small pieces—around 1 inch each. This makes melting easier and quicker.
For a varied effect, combine different shades of blue. - Set Up Your Workspace: Cut two pieces of wax paper into squares, about 12 inches each, and place one square on your workspace as your base layer.
- Melt the Crayons: Evenly distribute crayon pieces on the wax paper in a design of your choice and cover with a second piece of wax paper.
- Apply Heat: Using an iron on a low setting, carefully glide it over the wax paper. If using a hair straightener, clamp it gently on the wax paper instead. Observe as the crayons melt and blend together.
- Shape Your Suncatcher: Once cooled completely, peel apart the wax paper, and use a cookie cutter or stencil to cut out shapes from the melted crayon sheet.
- Hang Your Suncatcher: Use a hole punch to create holes at the top of your designed shape, then thread a piece of string or fishing line through and hang it in a sunny window.
Notes
Experiment with different colors and shapes for unique designs. Consider mixing in small items like dried flowers for added texture.
