Description

Transform old crayons into colorful suncatchers that brighten up any window with this simple DIY craft.


Ingredients

  • Blue crayons (broken or whole)
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Oven
  • Cookie cutters (optional)
  • Scissors (for cutting parchment paper)
  • String (for hanging)
  • Hole punch (optional)

Instructions

  1. Sort your blue crayons and remove the paper wrappers.
  2. Break the crayons into small pieces (about 1-inch segments).
  3. Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C) for gentle melting.
  4. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking. If using cookie cutters, place them on the parchment paper.
  5. Fill the cookie cutters or arrange the crayon pieces in small clusters on the baking sheet.
  6. Carefully place the baking sheet in the oven. Bake for 5-15 minutes, watching closely as the crayons melt into a liquid state.
  7. Once melted, remove the baking sheet from the oven (use oven mitts) and allow the melted crayon to cool slightly before handling.
  8. If using cookie cutters, let the melted crayon cool completely before removing.
  9. Use a hole punch to create a hole at the top of the suncatcher (if desired) and thread a string through the hole for hanging.
  10. Hang your colorful suncatcher in a sunny window and enjoy the vibrant colors coming through!
