Description

Create colorful and eco-friendly bioplastic suncatchers to brighten up your space with this fun DIY project.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1/2 cup of corn starch
  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable glycerin (optional for flexibility)
  • Natural food coloring or plant-based dyes
  • Mixing bowl
  • Non-stick pan
  • Wax paper
  • Spoons or spatula
  • Cookie cutters (optional)
  • Mod Podge or clear sealant (optional for extra shine)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine water, corn starch, and glycerin. Stir thoroughly until you achieve a lump-free mixture.
  2. Pour your mixture into a non-stick pan. Heat over medium-low heat, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens and becomes translucent.
  3. Once thickened, remove from heat and stir in your choice of natural food coloring until you achieve your desired shade.
  4. On a piece of wax paper, pour or spoon the mixture into desired shapes or use cookie cutters for fun designs, spreading evenly to a thickness of about 1/4 inch.
  5. Allow suncatchers to air dry for 24 hours or until completely solid; flip them halfway through for even drying.
  6. If desired, apply a layer of Mod Podge or sealant for added shine and durability, and use string or suction cups to hang your suncatchers in windows.

Notes

Consider decorating the suncatchers with glitter or sequins before they dry for extra sparkle. Create themed collections or organize a crafting party for added fun.
