Description

Create unique and eco-friendly sun catchers using bioplastic and dried flowers, perfect for brightening up any space.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup of cornstarch
  • 1 cup of vinegar
  • 1 cup of vegetable glycerin
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • Pans for heating
  • Parchment paper
  • Dried flowers (such as pressed petals)
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Scissors
  • Cookie cutter or shape template
  • String or fishing line for hanging

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Work Area
  2. Gather all materials for easy access.
  3. Mix the Ingredients
  4. In a saucepan, combine cornstarch, vinegar, glycerin, and water.
  5. Stir well until blended, ensuring there are no lumps.
  6. Cook the Mixture
  7. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly.
  8. Watch for it to thicken, resembling a gel-like consistency (about 5–10 minutes).
  9. Shape the Bioplastic
  10. Once thickened, remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  11. Pour the mixture onto the parchment paper, using a spatula to spread it evenly.
  12. Use cookie cutters to create desired shapes.
  13. Add Flowers
  14. While the bioplastic is still soft, gently place dried flowers onto the surface.
  15. Press them lightly to secure.
  16. Dry and Harden
  17. Allow the sun catchers to air dry for 24-48 hours until solid and clear.
  18. Carefully peel from parchment once dried.
  19. Add Hanging Mechanism
  20. Use scissors to create a small hole at the top of each sun catcher.
  21. Thread string or fishing line through the hole for hanging.

Notes

Experiment with different dried flowers and food coloring for varied results. Make sure to hang the sun catchers in a dry place to prolong their lifespan.
