Description

Create vibrant and eco-friendly flower suncatchers using DIY bioplastics. Perfect project for all ages.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup of cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon of vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon of corn oil
  • Food coloring (various colors)
  • Wax paper
  • Cookie cutters (flower shapes)
  • Rolling pin
  • Paintbrush (optional)
  • Scissors (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the bioplastic mixture by combining cornstarch, vinegar, and corn oil in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Stir the mixture until it thickens, avoiding lumps.
  3. Divide the mixture into bowls and add food coloring to each.
  4. Mix until the colors are smooth and vibrant.
  5. Place a sheet of wax paper on a flat surface.
  6. Use a rolling pin to flatten the colored bioplastic to about 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Cut out flower shapes using cookie cutters.
  8. Lift the shapes and place them on another sheet of wax paper to dry.
  9. Allow them to dry completely, which may take a few hours to overnight.
  10. Use string or thread to hang the suncatchers in a sunny window.

Notes

Consider mixing colors or adding glitter for extra fun. Make sure to store suncatchers in a dry place.
