Description

An exciting DIY project that teaches kids about chemical reactions through a fun baking soda volcano eruption.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • a few drops of dish soap
  • Food coloring (red or desired color)
  • Plastic or paper cup (as a volcano mold)
  • Tray or large dish (to contain the mess)
  • Optional: Model clay or playdough (to create a volcano shape)

Instructions

  1. Mold the Shape: If you’re using model clay or playdough, mold it around the plastic or paper cup to simulate the volcano’s mountain. Leave a hole to expose the top of the cup.
  2. Mix the Ingredients: In a bowl, combine 1/2 cup of baking soda with a few drops of dish soap and food coloring. Mix well.
  3. Pour the Mixture: Carefully pour this mixture into the volcano mold (the cup).
  4. Add Vinegar: Slowly pour 1 cup of white vinegar into the cup with the baking soda mixture.
  5. Watch the Magic Happen: Observe the fizzing and bubbling, resembling a lava flow!

Notes

Adult supervision is recommended. The mixture is non-toxic and easy to clean with water.
