Whimsical Dinosaur Footprint Cookies that are fun to make and delicious to eat, perfect for themed parties and a great family activity.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Food coloring (green, brown, etc. for decorating)
- Chocolate chips or M&M’s (for ‘toes’)
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
- Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until a dough forms. Divide the dough into portions and wrap in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick. Cut out dinosaur footprints or shape them using your hands.
- Place the cutout cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Press chocolate chips or M&M’s on the tips for ‘toes.’ Bake for 8-10 minutes until golden around the edges.
- Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Decorate with icing or additional candies if desired.
Notes
Colorful footprints can be made by adding food coloring to the dough. You can also use gluten-free flour for a gluten-free version.
