Description

Engage in a fun and educational craft by creating colorful dino suncatchers that brighten your space while exploring the fascinating world of dinosaurs.

Ingredients

  • Wax paper
  • Crayons (various colors)
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Iron (with adult supervision)
  • Scissors
  • Dinosaur stencils (or printed images)
  • Optional: black construction paper or cardstock

Instructions

  1. Gather all your materials on a flat surface. Ensure you have access to an iron, safely operated by an adult.
  2. Use the pencil sharpener to shave crayon pieces into small bits. Choose a variety of colors for a more vibrant suncatcher.
  3. Cut two pieces of wax paper into rectangles (about 8×10 inches). Place one piece on a flat surface.
  4. Place crayon shavings on the center of the wax paper, ensuring not to overcrowd. Experiment with layering different colors for a marbled effect.
  5. Place the second piece of wax paper over the crayon shavings. Press down gently to flatten it out.
  6. With a low heat setting, carefully iron over the top wax paper for 10-15 seconds. Ensure the wax melts enough to bind the crayon shavings without burning.
  7. Allow it to cool, then cut out dinosaur shapes or use stencils. Optional: Back your suncatcher with black construction paper for a bold look.
  8. Use tape or strings to hang the suncatchers in windows or on walls. Enjoy the beautiful colors and playful designs!

Notes

Recommended color combinations and techniques for added texture include using fine glitter or tissue paper.
