Description

These adorable cookies resemble flip flops and are perfect for summer gatherings and beach parties. Fun to make and easy to customize with vibrant icing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Royal icing in various colors
  • Sprinkles (optional)
  • Cookie cutters (flip flop shape)
  • Parchment paper
  • Cooling rack

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and baking soda. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with granulated sugar until fluffy.
  4. Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  6. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
  7. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about ¼ inch thick.
  8. Use a flip flop cookie cutter to cut out cookies and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  10. Transfer the cookies to a cooling rack and let them cool completely.
  11. Once cooled, use royal icing to decorate your cookies in fun, bright colors.
  12. Use sprinkles to enhance the design, resembling straps and other fun elements.

Notes

Try using different extracts for flavor variations or other cookie cutter shapes for creative designs.
