Description
Create beautiful crystal formations that resemble stunning trees while exploring the fascinating concepts of crystallization.
Ingredients
- Epsom salt (or sugar)
- Water
- A small container or jar
- A piece of string or cotton thread
- A pencil or stick
- Food coloring (optional)
- A small pot (for boiling water)
Instructions
- Prepare your solution by bringing about 1 cup of water to a boil in a small pot.
- Gradually add Epsom salt (or sugar) while stirring until you can no longer dissolve the salt.
- Tie one end of the string to the pencil or stick so that it will hang down into the container.
- Add a few drops of food coloring to your solution for a colorful effect (optional).
- Pour the saturated solution into the container.
- Carefully lower the string into the solution without touching the sides.
- Place the container in a safe and undisturbed location.
- Allow the solution to cool and evaporate over the next few days. Watch as the crystals form and grow on the string!
- Check daily to observe the growth of your crystallized tree!
Notes
Use different salts for varied crystal shapes. Experiment with mixing colors for unique effects. Consider using cookie cutter shapes submerged in the solution.
