Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup water
- 2–3 cups granulated sugar or coarse salt
- Food coloring or flavorings (optional: vanilla, citrus zest, etc.)
- String and pencil (for hanging crystals, optional)
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: In a saucepan, mix 1 cup of water with 2-3 cups of sugar (or salt).
- Heat Mixture: Place the saucepan over medium heat, stirring continuously until the sugar (or salt) fully dissolves, ensuring the solution is saturated but not boiling.
- Prepare Jars: Pour the hot solution into clean glass jars, leaving space at the top.
- Add Color/Flavor (optional): If desired, add a few drops of food coloring or flavoring to the solution.
- Insert a String (optional): Tie one end of the string to a pencil and suspend it in the jar without touching the bottom.
- Cool and Wait: Let the jars sit undisturbed in a cool, dark place for at least 3-7 days. Crystals will form on the bottom and the string.
