Description

Create your own stunning crystal tree through a fun and educational crafting project that combines both science and art.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup white granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup Epsom salt (or other salt)
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • A small cup or container
  • A small plastic or decorative base
  • A stirring utensil
  • A spoon or pipette

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and 1 cup of Epsom salt on low heat.
  2. Stir continuously until the salt dissolves completely, creating a saturated solution.
  3. If desired, add a few drops of food coloring to your mixture and stir until evenly distributed.
  4. Carefully pour the saturated solution into your small cup or container, leaving some space at the top.
  5. Insert a small twig or stick into the solution, ensuring it touches the bottom.
  6. Allow the setup to sit undisturbed in a cool, dry place.
  7. In about 24-48 hours, you will begin to see tiny crystals forming on the twig.
  8. Leave the tree for 3 to 5 days to allow the crystals to grow larger.
  9. Carefully remove the crystal tree from the solution and let it dry on a paper towel for a few minutes.
  10. Once dry, mount it on the small base to display as a stunning decorative piece.

Notes

Experiment with different food coloring combinations and use different materials to modify your crystal tree.
