Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup Borax
- 2 cups Water
- Pipe cleaners (various colors)
- A sturdy container or jar
- A pencil or stick (for hanging the tree)
- String (optional for hanging)
- Food coloring (optional)
- Scissors
Instructions
- Shape the pipe cleaners into a tree design with branches, twisting multiple together for fullness.
- Heat 2 cups of water until nearly boiling, then gradually add 1/2 cup of borax, stirring until completely dissolved. Add food coloring if desired.
- Tie the top of the tree to a pencil or stick and suspend it in the borax solution without touching the sides or bottom.
- Leave the container undisturbed in a cool, dry place, and check periodically as crystals form over the next few days.
- Once fully grown, carefully remove the tree, rinse it gently, let it dry, and display it as a decoration.
