Ingredients
- Borax powder (1 cup)
- Water (2 cups)
- Pipe cleaners (assorted colors, 5–10)
- A glass jar
- String or thread
- A pencil
- Food coloring (optional)
- Scissors
Instructions
- Prepare the Pipe Cleaner Tree: Twist several pipe cleaners together to form a tree shape and attach a loop at the top.
- Create the Solution: Heat 2 cups of water until boiling, then stir in 1 cup of Borax until dissolved.
- Add Color (Optional): Add food coloring to the solution if desired.
- Suspend the Tree: Tie string around the tree and rest a pencil across the jar opening to hang it.
- Let the Crystals Form: Pour the hot solution into the jar with the tree and leave it undisturbed overnight.
- Reveal Your Crystals: Remove the tree the next day, rinse under cold water, and let it dry.
Notes
Try using sugar for a different texture or customize colors for a vibrant look. Allow at least 24 hours for the best crystal growth.
