Description
A fun and educational craft project for all ages that combines science and creativity to create beautiful crystal trees.
Ingredients
- Copper sulfate (or Epsom salt for a less toxic alternative)
- Water
- A clean container or jar
- Wire (for shaping branches)
- String or fishing line (to hang your tree)
- Optional: food coloring (for colored crystals)
Instructions
- Mix the Solution: In a saucepan, combine water with copper sulfate until it becomes saturated (it won’t dissolve any more).
- Heat: Gradually heat the solution on low heat to help dissolve the copper sulfate completely.
- Shape Your Tree: Use wire to shape the trunk and branches of your tree, making it as detailed or simple as you wish.
- Set the Tree: Suspend the wire tree into the container with the solution, ensuring it doesn’t touch the bottom.
- Wait: Place the jar in a cool, dry location, and let it sit undisturbed for several days.
- Check Daily: Over several days, you’ll start to see crystals form on your tree.
- Decide When It’s Done: Allow the tree to grow crystals until you’re satisfied with the size and number.
Notes
Consider adding glitter or beads to enhance visual appeal. Use colored wire for a vibrant look.
