Description

Create stunning crystal seashells using simple materials and learn about crystallization in the process.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Clean, empty seashells
  • 1 to 2 cups Epsom salt or borax
  • 1 cup water
  • Saucepan for boiling water
  • Stirring stick/spoon
  • Baking sheet
  • Wax paper or parchment paper
  • Optional: Food coloring for vibrant colors

Instructions

  1. Prepare your seashells by cleaning them thoroughly and ensuring they are dry. Line a baking sheet with wax paper for easy cleanup.
  2. Create the crystal solution by boiling 1 cup of water in a saucepan, then gradually stir in 1 to 2 cups of Epsom salt or borax until fully dissolved. Add food coloring if desired.
  3. Soak the shells in the hot solution, allowing them to soak for at least 12-24 hours depending on desired crystal size.
  4. Dry the shells completely after soaking, removing them and placing them on the lined baking sheet.
  5. Display your creations by arranging them in a decorative bowl or using them as unique gifts.

Notes

Experiment with food coloring for different effects and consider swapping materials for varied textures.
