Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups of granulated sugar
- 1 cup of water
- 1 teaspoon of flavoring (vanilla, peppermint, etc.)
- Food coloring (optional)
- Glass jars for serving
- Candy thermometer
- Whisk
- Cooking pot
Instructions
- In a cooking pot, combine the sugar and water. Heat over medium heat, stirring until sugar is completely dissolved. Use a candy thermometer to monitor the temperature.
- Once the mixture reaches 240°F (soft-ball stage), remove from heat and stir in flavoring and food coloring.
- Allow the syrup to cool in the pot for about 10-15 minutes. As it cools, it will begin to thicken. Pour into glass jars, filling them about halfway.
- Let the jars sit undisturbed at room temperature for several hours or overnight to form crystals.
