- Stirring stick (wooden or plastic)
Instructions
- Bend two pipe cleaners into heart shapes.
- Twist the ends together for stability. You can also make smaller hearts to create a collection.
- In a pot, bring 2 cups of water to a boil.
- Use a heatproof container to carefully pour the hot water.
- Add 1 cup of borax powder to the boiling water.
- Stir until fully dissolved. The solution should be clear; any undissolved particles will affect the outcome.
- Tie a length of string to the heart-shaped pipe cleaner.
- Suspend the formed heart into the solution inside the mason jar, ensuring it does not touch the sides.
- Set the jar in a safe place and let it sit undisturbed for 6-12 hours.
- Observe as beautiful crystals start forming around the heart.
- Once the crystals are fully formed, carefully remove the heart from the solution.
- Rinse it under cool water to wash away any excess borax.
Notes
Consider using colored pipe cleaners or adding food coloring to the borax solution for different hues. Keep ornaments in a dry place away from direct sunlight.
