Description

An enchanting project that combines science and art, allowing you to grow beautiful crystal trees using simple materials.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup of water
  • 3 cups of sugar
  • A pot for boiling
  • Spoon for stirring
  • Pipe cleaners (green and brown)
  • A jar or cup for the tree to grow in
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Wax paper or plastic sheet

Instructions

  1. Shape the Pipe Cleaners: Twist green pipe cleaners into a tree shape with branches.
  2. Create the Base: Use a brown pipe cleaner for the trunk and attach it to the green branches.
  3. Heat the Water: In a pot, heat 1 cup of water until it’s boiling.
  4. Dissolve the Sugar: Gradually add 3 cups of sugar to the boiling water, stirring continuously until fully dissolved.
  5. Cool and Color: Remove from heat and let it cool slightly. If desired, add a few drops of food coloring.
  6. Set Up: Place the shaped tree carefully in the jar or cup.
  7. Pour the Solution: Slowly pour the sugar solution over the tree, ensuring it’s fully submerged.
  8. Cover: Cover the jar with wax paper or a plastic sheet to reduce evaporation.
  9. Let it Sit: Leave the jar undisturbed for several days.
  10. Watch the Magic: Observe the crystals forming around your tree. Check daily for best results.

Notes

Consider using glitter for extra sparkle! Experiment with food coloring for multi-colored crystals.
