Description

A delightful winter project that combines art and science, creating a charming crystal-growing snowman that decorates your space.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 clear jar or container
  • String or yarn
  • A small object for the snowman’s body (like a small ball or crumpled paper)
  • Optional: Food coloring
  • Optional: Decorative items (like buttons, a tiny hat, or a scarf)

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 cup of water in a saucepan until it’s almost boiling. Gradually add 1 cup of sugar, stirring continuously until fully dissolved.
  2. Pour the sugar solution into your clear jar or container, making sure it’s at least halfway full. Add food coloring if desired.
  3. Use your small object as a base for your snowman and tie one end of the string around it.
  4. Hang the snowman from the top of the container so that it dangles in the solution without touching the sides or bottom.
  5. Place the jar in a cool, undisturbed area to let crystals form over the next day or two.
  6. After a few days, carefully remove the snowman and let the crystals dry. Decorate with tiny accessories for a festive look!

Notes

Ensure the snowman dangles freely in the solution to promote even crystal growth. Experiment with different materials and decorations for unique results.
