Description
A delightful winter project that combines art and science, creating a charming crystal-growing snowman that decorates your space.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup of water
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1 clear jar or container
- String or yarn
- A small object for the snowman’s body (like a small ball or crumpled paper)
- Optional: Food coloring
- Optional: Decorative items (like buttons, a tiny hat, or a scarf)
Instructions
- Heat 1 cup of water in a saucepan until it’s almost boiling. Gradually add 1 cup of sugar, stirring continuously until fully dissolved.
- Pour the sugar solution into your clear jar or container, making sure it’s at least halfway full. Add food coloring if desired.
- Use your small object as a base for your snowman and tie one end of the string around it.
- Hang the snowman from the top of the container so that it dangles in the solution without touching the sides or bottom.
- Place the jar in a cool, undisturbed area to let crystals form over the next day or two.
- After a few days, carefully remove the snowman and let the crystals dry. Decorate with tiny accessories for a festive look!
Notes
Ensure the snowman dangles freely in the solution to promote even crystal growth. Experiment with different materials and decorations for unique results.
