Description

Transform ordinary pipe cleaners into stunning, crystalline trees using a simple Borax solution. A fun and educational activity for all ages!

Ingredients

  • Pipe cleaners (various colors)
  • Borax (1 cup)
  • Water (2 cups)
  • A heatproof container (like a glass jar)
  • Spoon for stirring
  • String or fishing line (optional for hanging)
  • Scissors
  • Small rocks or a base (optional for stability)

Instructions

  1. Shape the pipe cleaners into tree forms, starting with a trunk and branching out for the leaves.
  2. Boil 2 cups of water in a pot and carefully add 1 cup of Borax, stirring until fully dissolved.
  3. Hang the pipe cleaner trees from a pencil or chopstick balanced on the container’s top, ensuring they are submerged in the Borax solution.
  4. Place the container in a safe spot and let the trees sit for 24 hours to grow crystals.
  5. Carefully remove the trees from the solution, rinse with cold water, and let them dry completely.

Notes

Experiment with different colors and shapes. For a variation, try using salt instead of Borax, but results may vary.
