Description

Engage in a fun and educational craft by creating beautiful crystal growing paper trees, combining art and science.

Ingredients

  • White paper (cardstock works best)
  • Liquid glue (clear-drying)
  • Salt (table salt or Epsom salt)
  • Water
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Small bowl or container
  • Paintbrush or cotton swabs for applying glue
  • Scissors
  • Wax paper or plastic wrap

Instructions

  1. Cut out tree shapes from white paper to create various sizes and styles.
  2. Fold or cut additional branches for extra texture.
  3. Brush a thin layer of clear-drying glue on the tree shapes.
  4. In a small bowl, mix water with a generous amount of salt until mostly dissolved.
  5. Add a few drops of food coloring to the saltwater mixture if desired.
  6. Submerge the glued paper trees into the saltwater solution and let excess liquid drip off.
  7. Place the trees on wax paper or plastic wrap, ensuring they don’t touch.
  8. Set aside the trees to grow crystals for 24 hours, observing the growth process.

Notes

Experiment with different coloring combinations and types of salt for unique crystal displays.
