Description

A fun and educational craft activity that allows you to witness the fascinating process of crystallization by creating stunning crystals at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup of water
  • 3 tablespoons of sugar (or salt for different crystal types)
  • Clear glass jar (or container)
  • A clean stirring stick (like a spoon)
  • Optional: Food coloring (for colored crystals)
  • Optional: A small piece of string or a pencil (to help suspend the crystals)

Instructions

  1. Heat Water: In a small pan, bring the water to a boil.
  2. Add Sugar/Salt: Stir in the sugar (or salt) until it dissolves completely, creating a saturated solution.
  3. Cool Down: Allow the solution to cool for about 10 minutes.
  4. Pour into Jar: Carefully pour the mixture into the clean glass jar, leaving a little space at the top.
  5. Add Color (Optional): If desired, add a few drops of food coloring and stir gently.
  6. Insert String/Pencil: Tie a small piece of string to a pencil and suspend it in the jar.
  7. Cover: Place a lid or plastic wrap over the jar to prevent evaporation.
  8. Observe Growth: Place the jar in a cool location and wait 3-7 days, checking daily for crystal growth.

Notes

Use different solvents like borax or baking soda for various crystal types. Tap water works, but distilled water may yield better results.
