Description

A fun and educational activity to grow beautiful crystals using simple materials at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup of water
  • 3 cups of sugar (or salt for alternative crystals)
  • A jar or glass container
  • A spoon for stirring
  • A heat source (like a stove or microwave)
  • String or a skewer (optional for crystal hanging)
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Paper towel

Instructions

  1. In a pot, heat the water on low, stirring consistently.
  2. Gradually add the sugar or salt, one cup at a time, until dissolved.
  3. Remove from heat and let it cool for about 10 minutes.
  4. If desired, add food coloring at this stage, mixing gently.
  5. Carefully pour the solution into the jar, leaving space at the top.
  6. If using, tie the string to the skewer and place it in the jar without touching the sides or bottom.
  7. Cover the jar with a paper towel and place it in a quiet location for 3-7 days as the crystals form.
  8. After several days, observe the growing crystals and enjoy!

Notes

Try different types of sugars and colors for various crystal looks. Crystals may take longer depending on temperature and saturation.
