Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 cups sugar (or salt for different types of crystals)
  • Heat-resistant container (glass jar or bowl)
  • Stirring stick or spoon
  • String or thread (optional for hanging crystals)
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Heat source (stove or microwave)

Instructions

  1. In a heat-resistant container, combine 1 cup of water and 3 cups of sugar (or salt). Heat gently until completely dissolved.
  2. If desired, add food coloring to the solution.
  3. Pour the hot solution into a clean jar, leaving space at the top. Suspend string for hanging if using.
  4. Place in a cool, undisturbed location and check daily as crystals form.
  5. After a few days to a week, carefully remove crystals and rinse with water. Allow to dry.
