Ingredients
- Borax (sodium borate)
- Water
- Glass jar or bowl
- String or pipe cleaner
- Pencil or stick
- Food coloring (optional)
- Measuring cups
- Heating source (like a kettle or microwave)
Instructions
- Boil 1 cup of water (careful handling required).
- Add 3 tablespoons of borax to the hot water gradually.
- Stir until completely dissolved; the solution should feel saturated.
- Shape a pipe cleaner into a fun design (heart, star, etc.).
- Tie a string to your shape and attach it to a pencil or stick.
- Pour the borax solution into the jar until it’s about three-quarters full.
- Submerge your shaped pipe cleaner in the solution, tying the pencil across the top to hold it in place.
- Let it sit undisturbed in a cool, dry place for 24 to 48 hours.
- Carefully remove the crystals from the solution after the waiting period.
- Rinse them gently with water; be careful not to break them!
- Allow the crystals to dry completely.
