Engage in a hands-on project by growing stunning crystals using borax and eggshells. Perfect for families, classrooms, and hobbyists!

Ingredients

  • Borax detergent
  • Clean eggshells (washed and dried)
  • Boiling water
  • Clear jar or glass container
  • Spoon for stirring
  • Optional: Food coloring
  • Optional: String or pipe cleaners

Instructions

  1. Clean the eggshells thoroughly and preserve their shape.
  2. Boil enough water to fill your jar halfway.
  3. Stir in three tablespoons of borax per cup of boiling water until fully dissolved. Add food coloring if desired.
  4. Pour the borax solution into your container, leaving space at the top.
  5. Suspend the eggshells in the solution using string or pipe cleaners to keep them from touching the bottom.
  6. Set the jar in a stable location and let the mixture cool overnight to allow crystal formation.
  7. Check periodically to observe the growth of the crystals.

Notes

Experiment with different egg shapes and colors for unique crystal formations. Try using various surfaces for crystal growth.
