Create stunning and colorful crystal flowers through a fun and educational crystallization project.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup Borax
- 3 cups Water
- Pipe cleaners
- Pencil or stick
- Glass jar
- Food coloring (optional)
- Scissors
- String (optional)
- Small plate (for resting)
Instructions
- Shape the pipe cleaners into flower designs and twist them to secure.
- Bring water to a boil in a pot and stir in borax until fully dissolved.
- Add food coloring to the boiling solution if desired and stir well.
- Pour the hot borax solution into the glass jar and lower the flower-shaped pipe cleaner into the jar, hanging it from a pencil or stick.
- Allow the jar to sit undisturbed for at least 6-8 hours or overnight to enable crystal formation.
- Once crystals have formed, remove the flower from the jar and let it dry on a plate before displaying.
Notes
Experiment with different colors and materials for unique flower designs. It’s a great group activity for classrooms and parties.
