Description
A fun and engaging craft project that combines baking soda dough with festive decor, perfect for all ages.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup baking soda
- 1/2 cup white vinegar
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1 cup water
- Food coloring (optional)
- Essential oils (optional)
- A festive mold or cookie cutter (tree-shaped)
- Baking sheet
- Parchment paper
- Paintbrush or sponge (for painting)
- Glitter or sequins for decoration (optional)
Instructions
- Mix ingredients: In a medium saucepan, combine the baking soda, white vinegar, and cornstarch. Watch the mixture bubble and fizz together!
- Add water: Pour in the water, stirring continuously until the mixture is smooth.
- Heat: Place the saucepan on medium heat, continuing to stir until the mixture thickens into a dough-like consistency, about 5–10 minutes.
- Cool down: Allow the dough to cool for a few minutes until it’s safe to handle.
- Add color & scent: Mix in a few drops of food coloring and essential oils to add color and fragrance if desired.
- Shape the dough: Roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thick. Use a tree-shaped mold or cookie cutter to cut out your shapes. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake: Preheat your oven to 175°F (80°C) and bake the trees for 1 to 2 hours, or until hard. Keep an eye on them to prevent burning!
- Cool completely: Once baked, let your trees cool fully before decorating.
- Add finishing touches: Use a paintbrush or sponge to apply paint if desired, and sprinkle with glitter or sequins for extra sparkle.
Notes
You can prepare the dough a day in advance and store it in an airtight container. Experiment with different scents and colors for customization.
