Description
A whimsical treat featuring vibrant colors and a fun glow-in-the-dark effect perfect for parties and Halloween.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 medium-sized apples (preferably Granny Smith)
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tablespoon flavored extract (cotton candy or vanilla)
- Food coloring (blue and pink)
- Glow-in-the-dark food-safe powder (optional)
- Wooden skewers or popsicle sticks
- Wax paper for cooling
Instructions
- Wash and dry each apple thoroughly and remove the stems, inserting skewers into the tops of the apples.
- In a medium-sized saucepan, mix granulated sugar, light corn syrup, and water, then stir until combined.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat, and use a candy thermometer to monitor the temperature, cooking until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
- Remove from heat and quickly stir in the flavored extract.
- Divide the candy mixture into two bowls, adding blue food coloring to one and pink to the other.
- Dip each apple into the blue candy first, allowing excess to drip off.
- Drizzle the pink candy over the blue-coated apple to create a swirl effect.
- If using glow-in-the-dark powder, sprinkle it onto the warm candy coating before it sets.
- Place dipped apples on wax paper to cool and harden fully.
Notes
For flavor variations, swap cotton candy flavor for cherry, grape, or bubblegum. Experiment with different food color combinations for unique looks.
