Description

Create beautiful cornstarch rainbow suncatchers that brighten any space with vibrant colors and sparkling effects.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • ½ cup water
  • Food coloring (various colors)
  • Large baking sheet or wax paper
  • Squeeze bottle or plastic cups
  • Toothpick or skewer
  • Cooking spray (optional)

Instructions

  1. Mix the Base: In a saucepan, combine ¼ cup cornstarch and ½ cup water. Stir until smooth.
  2. Heat the Mixture: Place the saucepan over medium heat, stirring continuously until it thickens (about 5-7 minutes).
  3. Cool Slightly: Remove from heat and let it cool slightly for easier handling.
  4. Divide the Mixture: Pour the thickened cornstarch mixture into different cups.
  5. Color It Up: Add a few drops of food coloring to each cup, mixing well to achieve your desired shades.
  6. Prepare Baking Surface: If desired, spray the baking sheet or wax paper lightly with cooking spray for easy removal later.
  7. Pour the Mixture: Using a squeeze bottle or spoon, pour the colored mixtures onto the baking sheet in fun shapes or patterns.
  8. Swirl with a Toothpick: Use a toothpick or skewer to gently swirl colors together for creative designs.
  9. Let It Dry: Allow the suncatchers to dry completely (this may take several hours or overnight, depending on thickness).
  10. Remove Suncatchers: Once dry, carefully peel them off the baking surface.
  11. Hang & Enjoy: Attach them to windows using string, tape, or suction cups to watch the colors come alive with sunlight.

Notes

Add glitter for a sparkling effect or use natural dyes for unique colors. Experiment with different shapes using cookie cutters.
