- 1 cup water
- 2 tablespoons corn syrup
- Fresh flowers (small blooms work best)
- A small saucepan
- A whisk or spoon
- Wax paper
- Scissors
- String or fishing line for hanging
- Optional: food coloring (for tinting the gel)
Instructions
- Select fresh blooms at their peak and prepare them by removing any leaves and ensuring they are dry.
- Press the flowers between the pages of a heavy book or use a flower press for 1-2 days.
- Combine the cornstarch, water, and corn syrup in a small saucepan and heat over medium while whisking until the mixture thickens, about 5-10 minutes.
- Add a few drops of food coloring if desired.
- Spread a thin layer of the cornstarch gel on a sheet of wax paper.
- Place the pressed blooms onto the gel and cover them well.
- Add another layer of gel over the blooms to encapsulate them.
- Allow the ornaments to dry completely in a well-ventilated space for up to 48 hours.
- Peel the dried ornaments from the wax paper carefully.
- Cut a piece of string or fishing line and thread it through the top of the dried ornament. Tie securely for hanging.
