Description

A visually stunning and mouthwatering dessert that combines the joy of coloring with delicious cake.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Food coloring (various colors)
  • Parchment paper
  • Baking pan (9×13 inch)
  • Stand or hand mixer
  • Mixing bowls
  • Spatula
  • Decorating tools (piping bags, tips, etc.)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Stir in the milk and vanilla extract until combined.
  6. Gradually fold in the dry ingredients, ensuring a smooth batter.
  7. Divide the batter evenly into separate bowls, one for each color you plan to use.
  8. Add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl, and mix until the desired color is achieved.
  9. Line your baking pan with parchment paper for easier removal.
  10. Pour spoonfuls of different colored batters into the pan, creating fun patterns and swirls.
  11. Use a toothpick to gently swirl the colors together, but don’t overmix.
  12. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  13. Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  14. Once cooled, decorate with your favorite frosting and edible decorations.

Notes

For a gluten-free option, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free blend. Feel free to experiment with flavors and themed designs.
