Description

Make your own colorful bouncing balls while exploring the science of polymers and color mixing in this fun and educational project.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon of white school glue
  • 1/2 teaspoon of liquid starch
  • 1/4 teaspoon of cornstarch
  • Food coloring (various colors)
  • Small mixing bowls
  • Measuring spoons
  • Plastic gloves (optional)
  • Wax paper or a non-stick surface

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Workspace: Lay out your wax paper or non-stick surface to keep your area clean and gather all your materials within reach.
  2. Mix the Base: In a small mixing bowl, combine 1 tablespoon of white school glue and 1/4 teaspoon of cornstarch. Stir well.
  3. Add Color: Divide the glue mixture into separate bowls and add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl, mixing until desired shades are achieved.
  4. Activate with Starch: Add 1/2 teaspoon of liquid starch to each color mixture and stir until it begins to clump together.
  5. Shape Your Bounce Ball: Once it forms a ball, knead it with your hands until smooth and bouncy.
  6. Tie-Dye It!: Combine different colored mixtures into a larger ball, swirling the colors together.
  7. Let It Rest: Allow your bounce ball to rest for a few minutes to firm up before playing.

Notes

Experiment with color mixing, size variations, and glow-in-the-dark paint for extra fun.
