Description

A fun and educational kitchen project to create beautiful sugar crystals, perfect for decorating desserts or enjoying as a unique treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Jar or glass container
  • Wooden skewers or string
  • Clothespin (if using string)
  • Saucepan
  • Heat source

Instructions

  1. Combine 1 cup of granulated sugar and ½ cup of water in a saucepan.
  2. Heat gently while stirring until the sugar fully dissolves to create a syrup.
  3. Add a few drops of food coloring to the syrup if desired and stir until the color distributes evenly.
  4. Pour the syrup into a clean jar or glass container, leaving some space at the top.
  5. Insert a wooden skewer or piece of string into the jar, ensuring it hangs down into the syrup.
  6. Secure it in place with a clothespin at the top of the jar.
  7. Place the jar in a cool, undisturbed location.
  8. Allow the sugar crystals to form over several days, observing the growth progress.
  9. Once the desired crystal size is achieved (typically 3-7 days), carefully remove the skewer or string.
  10. Let the crystals dry completely before enjoying or displaying.
