- 4 cups uncooked rice
- Food coloring (various colors)
- 1 tablespoon vinegar (optional, for vibrant colors)

- Ziploc bags or containers
- Sensory bin (plastic bin or tray)
- Scooping tools (cups, spoons, or measuring cups)
- Small toys (figures, cars, or animals for added play)
Instructions
- Measure 1 cup of uncooked rice into a Ziploc bag.
- Add 1 teaspoon of food coloring. For brighter colors, you can add a splash of vinegar.
- Seal the bag and shake it well until the rice is evenly coated with the color. Repeat this process for each color you want to make, using separate bags for each one.
- Spread the colored rice onto a baking sheet in a thin layer and allow to dry completely for 30 minutes to an hour.
- Once dry, pour the colored rice into your sensory bin and add scooping tools and small toys to enhance the play experience.
Notes
Optional: Mix food coloring to create custom shades or add essential oils for scent. You can also experiment with different grains like quinoa or pasta.
