Description

A simple and safe recipe for making colorful play dough at home, perfect for sensory exploration and creative play.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons cream of tartar
  • Food coloring (liquid or gel)
  • Mixing bowl
  • Large pot
  • Spoon for stirring
  • Airtight container for storage

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, 1 cup of salt, and 2 tablespoons of cream of tartar. Mix well.
  2. In a separate large pot, pour in 2 cups of water and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Heat on medium.
  3. Gradually add the dry mixture into the pot while stirring continuously. Keep stirring until the mixture becomes thick and starts to pull away from the sides.
  4. Once you’ve achieved a smooth, consistent texture, remove it from heat. Divide the dough into sections and knead in food coloring as desired. (Gloves can prevent staining.)
  5. Allow the play dough to cool, then knead again for a softer consistency.
  6. Place in an airtight container to keep it fresh for playtime!

Notes

Add essential oils for scent or glitter for extra sparkle. Use different types of flour for varied textures.
