A simple and safe recipe for making colorful play dough at home, perfect for sensory exploration and creative play.
Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons cream of tartar
- Food coloring (liquid or gel)
- Mixing bowl
- Large pot
- Spoon for stirring
- Airtight container for storage
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, 1 cup of salt, and 2 tablespoons of cream of tartar. Mix well.
- In a separate large pot, pour in 2 cups of water and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Heat on medium.
- Gradually add the dry mixture into the pot while stirring continuously. Keep stirring until the mixture becomes thick and starts to pull away from the sides.
- Once you’ve achieved a smooth, consistent texture, remove it from heat. Divide the dough into sections and knead in food coloring as desired. (Gloves can prevent staining.)
- Allow the play dough to cool, then knead again for a softer consistency.
- Place in an airtight container to keep it fresh for playtime!
Notes
Add essential oils for scent or glitter for extra sparkle. Use different types of flour for varied textures.
