Description
Create stunning colorful crystal trees using simple materials for a fun and educational craft project.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup of water
- 3 tablespoons of Borax
- A clean jar or glass container
- Pipe cleaners (in various colors)
- A spoon for stirring
- String (optional, for hanging)
- Scissors
- Food coloring (optional)
- A small stick or pencil to suspend the tree (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Pipe Cleaners: Shape your pipe cleaners into a tree form, letting the branches spread out. Twist them to secure the shape, and make a trunk that fits well in your jar.
- Dissolve the Borax: In a heatproof container, boil the water. Carefully add 3 tablespoons of Borax to the boiling water, stirring until completely dissolved.
- Add Color: If using food coloring, add a few drops to the Borax solution until you achieve your desired color.
- Suspend the Tree: Carefully place the tree in the jar. You can use a stick or pencil to suspend it in the Borax solution without touching the sides. Make sure the tree is entirely submerged for optimal crystal growth.
- Let It Grow: Leave the jar in a stable area for at least 6-8 hours, or overnight. Watch as the crystals start to form on your tree.
- Remove and Enjoy: After the desired growing time, remove the tree from the solution. Allow it to dry for a few minutes before displaying it.
Notes
Experiment with different colors, sizes, and shapes for unique crystal creations. Consider using glitter or beads for added decoration.
