Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup corn starch
- 1 cup vinegar
- 1 cup water
- Food coloring (assorted colors)
- Baking sheet or parchment paper
- Cookie cutters (optional)
- Paintbrush (optional for detail)
- Scissors (for finished suncatchers)
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: In a saucepan, mix 1 cup of corn starch, 1 cup of vinegar, and 1 cup of water.
- Heat the Mixture: Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly. You’ll notice it beginning to thicken after a few minutes.
- Choose Your Colors: Once the mixture thickens, divide it into separate bowls.
- Add Food Coloring: Add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl for vibrant effects. Stir well to combine.
- Line the Baking Sheet: Spread parchment paper on your baking sheet.
- Pour and Shape: Pour colored mixtures onto the parchment paper and use cookie cutters to create shapes (or pour freeform).
- Smooth the Surface: Use a paintbrush to smooth out the edges if desired.
- Air Dry: Allow the shapes to dry at room temperature for about 24-48 hours. They’ll become translucent as they dry.
- Remove Carefully: Once thoroughly dry, gently peel them off the parchment paper.
- Trim Edges: If needed, use scissors to trim any rough edges.
- Hang Your Art: Use string or adhesive putty to hang your suncatchers in a sunny window.
Notes
