Description
Craft a stunning and customizable Christmas Crystal Tree using simple ingredients and enjoy a fun family activity that combines art and science.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup Baking Soda
- 1/2 cup White Vinegar
- 1 cup Water
- 3 tablespoons Corn Syrup
- Food Coloring (optional)
- A small bowl or cup for the tree base
- String or wire (for hanging)
- A baking sheet or tray
- Parchment paper or wax paper
Instructions
- Prepare the Mixture: In a bowl, mix 1 cup of baking soda with 1/2 cup of white vinegar. Watch it fizz and foam—this is a fun sensory moment! Once fizzing settles, add 1 cup of water and 3 tablespoons of corn syrup, mixing well until fully dissolved.
- Add Color: If you’d like, add a few drops of your chosen food coloring to MAKE the mixture festive. This step allows you to personalize your tree’s appearance!
- Shape the Tree: Place your small bowl or cup upside down on a baking sheet lined with parchment or wax paper. Pour the mixture over the bowl to form the shape of a tree. Be creative with your design!
- Let it Dry: Allow your creation to sit undisturbed in a cool, dry place for 24 to 48 hours. As it dries, crystals will start to form.
- Finishing Touches: Once dry, carefully lift the crusted creation from the bowl and gently remove it from the parchment paper. You can hang it using string or display it on your holiday table.
