Description

A fun and educational sensory bin activity using chia seeds that promotes creativity and exploration in children.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup chia seeds
  • 3 cups water (for soaking)
  • Food coloring (optional, for colored chia seeds)
  • Large container or bin
  • Small toys or figurines (animals, plants, etc.)
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Sensory tools (spoons, scoops, funnels)

Instructions

  1. Soak the Seeds: In a bowl, combine 1 cup of chia seeds with 3 cups of water. Stir well.
  2. Add Color: Mix in a few drops of food coloring if desired, and let it sit for 30 minutes to an hour to allow the seeds to absorb the water and become gel-like.
  3. Pour the gelled chia seeds into the large sensory bin.
  4. Sprinkle in small toys, figurines, or other materials that reflect a theme such as ocean life or garden.
  5. Encourage children to touch and manipulate the chia seed mixture.
  6. Introduce tools like measuring cups, spoons, and funnels to engage their fine motor skills.

Notes

Ensure adult supervision while children play with chia seeds. Store unused gel in the fridge for up to a few days.
