A fun and engaging science experiment that combines creativity with chemistry, resulting in exciting pop rocket launches.
Ingredients
- Chalk (dust or crushed)
- Vinegar
- Baking soda
- Small film canister or similar container with a tight lid
- Food coloring (optional)
- Safety goggles (recommended)
- Mixing bowl
- Spoon

Instructions
- Prepare Your Workspace: Find a flat, open area outside to prevent mess indoors. Wear safety goggles if you’re concerned about splashes.
- Mix Baking Soda and Chalk: In a mixing bowl, combine a tablespoon of baking soda and crushed chalk. If desired, add a few drops of food coloring for visual effects.
- Fill the Canister: Carefully spoon the mixture into the film canister, filling it no more than halfway.
- Add Vinegar: Pour a few tablespoons of vinegar into the canister. Quickly secure the lid tightly.
- Step Back and Enjoy!: Place the canister lid-side down on the ground and step back. Watch the reaction as gas builds up, eventually launching your rocket!
