Ingredients

- 2/3 cup light corn syrup
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
- Red food coloring
- Confectioners’ sugar (for dusting)
- Candy thermometer
- Baking sheet lined with parchment paper

Instructions
- Prepare the work area by ensuring cleanliness and dust with confectioners’ sugar.
- In a saucepan, combine granulated sugar, corn syrup, and water. Heat over medium, stirring until dissolved and heat to 300°F (hard crack stage). Remove from heat.
- Stir in peppermint extract. Divide mixture into two bowls; color one with red food coloring.
- Let mixtures cool slightly. Shape the white and red mixtures into long ropes, twist together, and shape ends into hooks.
- Place shaped candy canes on parchment paper to cool and harden completely.
Notes
