Description

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • Red food coloring
  • Confectioners’ sugar (for dusting)
  • Candy thermometer
  • Baking sheet lined with parchment paper
  • A pair of greased scissors or kitchen shears
  • Optional: festive packaging for gifting

Instructions

  1. Prepare the work area by ensuring cleanliness and dust with confectioners’ sugar.
  2. In a saucepan, combine granulated sugar, corn syrup, and water. Heat over medium, stirring until dissolved and heat to 300°F (hard crack stage). Remove from heat.
  3. Stir in peppermint extract. Divide mixture into two bowls; color one with red food coloring.
  4. Let mixtures cool slightly. Shape the white and red mixtures into long ropes, twist together, and shape ends into hooks.
  5. Place shaped candy canes on parchment paper to cool and harden completely.

Notes

Customize flavors with different extracts or colors. Add sprinkles for extra texture before the candy sets.
