Description

A fun and engaging science experiment combining lemons and baking soda for a visually captivating volcanic reaction.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large lemons
  • About 2 tablespoons baking soda
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Liquid dish soap
  • Spoon or small scoop
  • A small measuring spoon
  • Dish or tray to contain the mess

Instructions

  1. Cut the tops off the lemons to expose the interior, creating a small ‘bowl’.
  2. Scoop out some lemon pulp to create more space for the reaction.
  3. Spoon 1-2 tablespoons of baking soda into each lemon half.
  4. Add about 1 teaspoon of dish soap to each lemon half to make the bubbles last longer.
  5. If desired, add a few drops of food coloring for vibrant eruptions.
  6. Slowly pour vinegar into each lemon half to initiate the bubbly, fizzing reaction.

Notes

For different effects, try using limes or oranges, layer different food colors, or add glitter for extra flair.
