Description
Learn to create stunning borax crystals, a fun and educational project for all ages. This hands-on activity demonstrates crystallization while allowing for creativity and customization.
Ingredients
- Borax (sodium borate)
- Water
- Heat-resistant container (like a glass jar or bowl)
- String or pipe cleaners
- Pencil or stick (to suspend the string)
- Food coloring (optional)
- Stirring stick (like a spoon)
Instructions
- Boil about 2 cups of water in a kettle or pot.
- In a heat-resistant container, add 3-4 tablespoons of borax to the boiling water. Stir gently until completely dissolved.
- If using string, tie one end to a pencil, letting the other end hang into the solution. For pipe cleaners, mold them into desired shapes and suspend from the pencil.
- Add a few drops of food coloring to the borax solution if you want colored crystals.
- Place the container in a undisturbed spot and let it sit for several hours or overnight.
Notes
Experiment with different shapes, concentrations, and colors for varied results. Consider placing the container in the fridge for heightened clarity.
