Description

An engaging science experiment to create beautiful borax crystals using simple household materials.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup of water
  • 3 tablespoons of borax
  • A clean glass jar or bowl
  • String or pipe cleaner (shaped into a fun design)
  • Pencil or stick (to suspend the string)
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Heat source (to boil water)

Instructions

  1. Boil water in a pot.
  2. Once boiling, add borax and stir continuously until dissolved.
  3. Add food coloring if desired and stir.
  4. Shape the string or pipe cleaner into a design.
  5. Tie one end of the string to a pencil or stick and suspend it in the borax solution.
  6. Place the jar in an undisturbed location for several hours or overnight.
  7. Carefully remove the string and allow the crystals to dry before displaying.
