Description

Create stunning borax crystals through a fun and educational science project suitable for all ages.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup of water
  • 3 tablespoons of borax
  • A heatproof container (like a glass jar)
  • String or pipe cleaners
  • A pencil or stick (to suspend the string)
  • Optional: food coloring (for colored crystals)

Instructions

  1. Boil the cup of water in a pot. Remove from heat and stir in the borax until fully dissolved.
  2. Shape the string or pipe cleaner into a desired shape and attach it to the pencil or stick.
  3. Carefully place the pencil across the jar’s opening to suspend the string in the borax solution.
  4. Leave the setup undisturbed in a cool, dry place for several hours or overnight.
  5. Once your desired size is reached, carefully remove the crystals from the solution and allow them to dry on a paper towel.

Notes

Customize your crystal shapes and colors for a more personal touch. Use different amounts of borax for varying crystal sizes.
