Description
Create stunning, sparkly seashells using Borax and boiling water in this fun and educational craft project.
Ingredients
- Borax (1 cup)
- Boiling water (2 cups)
- Clear glass jar (wide-mouth preferred)
- Seashells (clean and dry)
- Food coloring (optional)
- Stirring stick (e.g., a wooden skewer)
- String or fishing line (for hanging, if desired)
Instructions
- Boil Water: Start by boiling 2 cups of water in a pot.
- Mix Borax: In a clean glass jar, carefully add 1 cup of Borax to the boiling water.
- Stir: Use a stirring stick to mix thoroughly until the Borax completely dissolves.
- Color Your Solution: If you’d like colored crystals, add a few drops of food coloring into the jar and stir until evenly mixed.
- Place Seashells: Submerge the clean seashells into your Borax solution, ensuring they are fully covered.
- Attach String (Optional): If you plan to display your seashells, tie a piece of string around the shells and hang them from a skewer placed across the top of the jar, allowing them to dangle in the solution.
- Let It Sit: Place the jar in a location where it won’t be disturbed. Allow it to sit for 24 hours.
- Remove and Rinse: After 24 hours, remove the seashells from the solution. Rinse them gently under cold water to remove excess Borax.
- Dry and Enjoy: Allow them to dry fully before displaying!
